Universal Pictures has announced that principal photography for Chris McKay’s upcoming horror-comedy film Renfield is finally finished, after more than two months of filming. It is set to debut in theaters on April 14, 2023.

Renfield is directed and produced by Chris McKay (tomorrow’s war) of a story based on an original pitch by The Walking Dead Robert Kirkman and was written by Ryan Ridley (rick and morty). Producers are Skybound Entertainment’s Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst and Sean Furst, with McKay’s partner Samantha Nisenboim serving as executive producer.
It centers on Dracula’s titular henchman, “who has grown sick and weary from the centuries of working as the Dark Prince’s lackey,” reads the synopsis. “He finds new life when he falls in love with a fiery and always angry traffic policeman.
The film stars Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road), Golden Globe winner Awkwafina (The farewell), Oscar winner Nicolas Cage (mandy), Oscar nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo (The extent), Ben Schwartz (Parks and recreation), Adrien Martinez (To concentrate), and Bess Rous (ghost hunters).
