The Hellenic Film Society continues its series of films on demand

Two films available for a period of 10 days each month

Holy Boom and Blue Queen streaming April 1-10

Hellenic Film Society USA (HFS) continues its monthly streaming series, Greek Films on Demand, from April 1-10 with the presentation of the mystery, Blue Queen, and the powerful drama, Holy Boom. Both films are in Greek with English subtitles.

Twists keep the audience guessing as four thieves battle it out for ‘Blue Queen’, one of the world’s most expensive diamonds. Greek director Alex Sipsidis brings American craftsmanship to this clever puzzle of a movie.

In Holy Boom, the lives of four foreigners living in a multicultural neighborhood of Athens are turned upside down when, on Palm Sunday, a mailbox is destroyed by local teenagers and vital documents are destroyed. Directed by Maria Lafi, the film was nominated for two Hellenic Film Academy Awards.

“The response from audiences around the world has been positive since we relaunched Greek Films on Demand in early March,” said Jimmy DeMetro, President of the Hellenic Film Society USA. “We are thrilled to present these two exceptionally well-crafted films in April.”

This month’s programming is made possible, in part, by The Greek Online School.

About the Hellenic Film Society USA

The Hellenic Film Society USA (HFS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization rooted in the belief that Greek cinema can and should be part of the American cultural landscape. The organization promotes feature films, documentaries and short films made by Greek and Greek-born filmmakers, as well as films that promote the cultures of Greece and Cyprus.

In addition to collaborating with the Museum of the Moving Image for its series of monthly Greek film screenings, HFS annually presents the New York Greek Film Expo film festival. When the pandemic forced cinemas to close, HFS started broadcasting Greek films worldwide and created a YouTube channel to meet public demand for Greek films.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) is the main supporter of the Hellenic Film Society USA. Additional support is provided by the Greek National Tourism Organization, the Kallinikeion Foundation, the Queen’s Arts Council and Antenna Satellite TV.
