Actor Tahj Mowry has spoken to Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about his role in the upcoming comedy film “Welcome Matt,” which will be released on May 28. It was an official selection at the 2021 Pan-African Art and Film Festival.
Mowry plays Matt, a writer and director who goes through a traumatic experience that makes him too afraid to leave his apartment. He therefore decides to write, act and direct a feature film from his home, while seeing a therapist at home to overcome his fear of going out. âI came across the script through my team,â he said. “This script allowed me to expand my abilities as an artistic actor. Drama is something that I have always wanted to deepen and give people a different side to. This film is a real dramatic comedy, and it m ‘gave all of these qualities that I love about cinema, especially independent films.
âI just fell in love with the character of Matt, he has such a bow and he’s so stretched out,â he admitted. “I couldn’t wait to dive in and find out who this character really was.”
âWelcome Mattâ is directed by Leon Prince Jr. and stars Deon Cole (Black-ish), GG Townson (Salt-N-Pepper), Jazmin Lewis (Barbershop), Adriyan Rae (Vagrant Queen), Aaron Grady (Millennials) ), and Dorien Wilson (The Parkers). âI want people to see themselves in Matt, especially this day in and day out,â he said. “I hope people take courage from it, and I want people to see themselves in it and I really believe they will.”
Additionally, Mowry just booked the ABC pilot âBlack Don’t Crack,â which was produced by Viola Davis and stars Tisha Campbell, Essence Atkins, Isaiah Mustafa and Beth Grant. âIt was amazing. It was produced by Queen Viola Davis. I am still so honored and privileged to be part of this project. I can’t wait to see where it lands. It’s a fun show, âhe said.
Mowry is the true definition of a triple threat talent. He is an accomplished actor, singer and dancer. He starred in the hit Freeform series, “Baby Daddy,” which spanned six seasons. âIt was a family we made,â he said. âTo be able to do six seasons with such an amazing cast and crew and crew, it was awesome. They all became family. Comedy has a way of touching the lives of so many people.
He made his television debut as a guest in “Who’s The Boss?” and he later had the recurring role of Teddy on the hit sitcom “Full House”. He has appeared in “Friends”, “Sister, Sister”, “The Suite Life of Zach and Cody” and the Disney animated series “Aladdin” and the “Lion King”. He starred and is best known for his role with TJ Henderson in “Smart Guy”. He also appeared in the films “Are We Done Yet?” And “Seventeen Again”.
Mowry is an accomplished singer and dancer who has worked on numerous videos with talents such as Michael Jackson, Prince and Mariah Carey. He released a six song EP titled “Future Funk” in 2015.
He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and is the brother of actresses Tia and Tamera Mowry. He has been nominated for several NAACP Image Awards and MTV Movie and Television Awards. He was featured in People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive issue and has over a million Instagram followers.
On life in my 40s, he said, âI was amazing. You need to find the silver lining in it. I was so grateful to have my family and even more grateful that my family lived in California and that I got to see them. It was such a difficult time for everyone, but it was a great opportunity for everyone to take a step back and reset. “
Regarding the title of the current chapter of his life, he said: âNew Beginningsâ.
He listed “The Rock” as his dream collaboration as an actor. âI’m always compared to him and I feel like an action comedy with the two of us is going to be hilarious,â he said.
Mowry defined the word success as “what you do with it”. âA lot of people think that success is about money and fame. It’s not what I consider success,â he said. âTo be cheerful and happy in yourself and in your life, it is success.Pursuing your dreams and what you want to accomplish is success.
