Music Trailer Previews Netflix’s Next Teen Comedy Film

netflix released a trailer for 13: The Musicalthe coming-of-age comedy-drama based on the 2007 Broadway musical of the same name by Jason Robert Brown and Dan Elish. The film will be available to stream August 12.

The video features 12-year-old Evan Goldman whose plans to have the best Bar Mitzvah were derailed when his parents decided to divorce. Because of this, he has to step away from his life in New York and try to start a new one in the small town of Indiana. He must navigate the various social cliques at his new school if he wants to throw the biggest Bar Mitzvah party.

13: The Musical stars Eli Golden, Rhea Perlman, Josh Peck, Peter Hermann, Gabriella Uhl, JD McCrary, Frankie McNellis, Lindsey Blackwell, Jonathan Lengel, Ramon Reed, Nolen Dubuc, Luke Islam, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Kayleigh Cerezo, Willow Moss, Liam Wignall and Khyla Aynne.

“A 12-year-old kid in New York plans the ultimate Bar Mitzvah, the synopsis reads. “However, those plans go awry when his parents reveal they are divorcing and he has to move across the country. With no friends and his parents not talking to each other, how is he going to have the epic Bar Mitzvah he’s always dreamed of?

The film is directed by Tamra Davis (Crossroads) from a screenplay written by Robert Horn. The original 2008 Broadway production featured the Broadway debut of Victorious stars Ariana Grande and Elizabeth Gillies.
