Kendrick Lamar is filming a comedy with Matt Stone and Trey Parker

Kendrick Lamar teams up with South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker for a new live-action comedy.

The untitled feature is produced by Lamar and Dave Free under their media company pgLang. Stone and Parker are on board as co-producers, and Paramount Pictures will handle the film’s theatrical and home distribution.

Written by comedian Veron Chatman (Marvel Showzen, Xavier: renegade angel), the film “will depict the past and present that come to a head when a young black man doing a slave reenactment internship at a living history museum discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his own. “, according to a press release. Production is expected to begin in spring 2022.

Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free launched pgLang in 2020. They described it as “a multilingual company, communicating the creative language of this generation through mediums illustrating the shared experiences that connect us all”. Last year, Lamar announced that his next album would be his final release through longtime label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE), suggesting that future projects would be released under pgLang.

As for Stone and Parker, the project marks the first non-South Park scripted film since 2004 Team America: World Police. The longtime collaborators recently struck a deal with ViacomCBS for six additional seasons of South Park in addition to 14 films. In 2021, they released two films via Paramount+: South Park: after Covid and South Park: Post Covid: The return of the Covid.
