‘Ismael’s Ghosts’ and American Comedy – Deadline

Oscar-winning actress and Cannes Film Festival veteran Marion Cotillard reconnects with director Arnaud Desplechin for The ghosts of Ishmael, who opened the festival this week. The two have already worked together in the years 1996 My sex life … or how I quarreled. We recently sat down with Cotillard to discuss the new movie and how things have turned out for her over the past 20 years.

Ishmael’s ghosts is the story of a filmmaker (Mathieu Amalric) whose life is turned upside down by the return of a former lover as he prepares to embark on the shooting of a new film. Charlotte Gainsbourg is also on the bill. The film met somewhat mixed reactions, although it got off to a solid start at the French box office this week. One of the talking points was Cotillard’s full nudity in the movie, something we discuss in the video above.

Cotillard also talks about his other most recent film, Rock n roll, directed by her husband Guillaume Canet. He too plays in the film which sees the couple playing essentially. It’s a comedy and Cotillard, who starred in Hollywood films as serious as that of Robert Zemeckis Ally and that of Christopher Nolan Creation, says, “I would pay” to do more American comedies.

In the meantime, the new mom is taking a break from getting back to real life and hoping to get involved in more experiences that will shed light on her future roles.
