Universal Pictures has released the comedian’s hilarious first trailer Jo Koythe next family comedy Easter Sunday. In the film, Koy plays “a man returning home for an Easter holiday with his rowdy family, bickering, eating, drinking, laughing and loving in this love letter to his Filipino-American community.”
While the story revolves around a Filipino-American family, Koy explained that the movie is about family and it’s the kind of movie everyone can enjoy. While at CinemaCon, Koy said the film captured relatable family chaos that everyone would recognize. Koy went on to say, “When you leave the movie, you’ll be like, ‘Holy shit, we’re all the same. “”
Koy also explained that one of his favorite movies growing up was Fridayand he was inspired by how this film captured the craziness of a specific day, and he went on to say, “Our day for Filipinos is Easter.”
The film features an all-star comedy cast that includes Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon Valley), Tia Carrere (TLies Street, Wayne’s World), Brandon Wardel (Calm your enthusiasm), Eva Noblezada (Broadway’s Hadesville), Lydie Gaston (Broadway’s The king and me), Asif Ali (Wanda Vision), Rodney at (Parks and recreation), Eugene Cordero (The right place), Jay Chandrasekhar (I love you man), Tiffany Haddish (Girls trip) and Lou Diamond Phillips (Courage under fire).
Easter Sunday was produced by Jay Chandrasekhar (Super Troopers, The Dukes of Hazzard), from a script of Ken Cheng (Wilfred, Beta). The film is slated for a theatrical release on August 5, 2022.
