Ben Simmons’ family life inspires American comedy series

Australian basketball superstar Ben Simmons is going to Hollywood and he can thank his unique Australian family for inspiring him.

The American television network NBC plans to create a comedy television series titled Brotherly Love based on Simmons’ large multiracial family.

Simmons and his brother Sean Tribe will serve as consulting producers, with NBA great LeBron James’ production company SpringHill Entertainment behind the series.

Simmons grew up in a Brady’s Bunch-type family in Australia with his father, American-born basketball player Dave Simmons, who moved in 1989 to play with the Melbourne Tigers of the NBL.

Dave quickly met and fell in love with Tigers cheerleader Julie, who was divorced and had four children. The couple got married and welcomed two children, Ben and his sister Olivia, together.

Ben currently plays for the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA, and Brotherly Love should take place in the same city.

Brotherly Love is inspired by the life of Ben Simmons and focuses on a unique sibling relationship within a multi-ethnic family”, Deadline reported.

“Together they chase their dreams while navigating the spotlight in Philadelphia, a passionate city where sports are in your blood, and your blood is always boiling.”
