There are different ways to present the story of America’s Founding Fathers. There are dry and dusty documentaries, there are the vibrant musical styles of Hamilton and then there is America: the movie, which has among its list of producers a certain Phil Lord and Chris Miller. So get ready for comic madness with the first trailer.
Matt Thompson, a veteran of Archer (also known for his animated madness) is the director here, with__ The Expendables / Wonder Woman 1984 writer Dave Callaham providing the screenplay. The basic plot of the Netflix film is described as: “A chainsaw-wielding George Washington gathers a team of grumbling mobs – including beer-loving brother Sam Adams, famous scientist Thomas Edison, famous horseman Paul Revere and a Geronimo very pissed off – to defeat Benedict Arnold and King James in the American Revolution. Who will win? Nobody knows, but you can be sure of one thing: they weren’t the founders of your father… uh, the fathers. ”
Channing Tatum voices Washington, with Jason Mantzoukas as Adams, Olivia Munn as Thomas Edison (not a typo), Bobby Moynihan as Revere, Raoul Max Trujillo as Geronimo, Andy Samberg as Arnold and Simon Pegg as King. It all sounds pretty bonkers, but could potentially be hilarious. It will hit Netflix servers on June 30, which is no coincidence a few days before America celebrates Independence Day.
